Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has ordered all hospitals to get a first class ambulance insurance right after the announcement of the General Insurance Association of Thailand and Insurance companies that they now accept first class ambulance insurance. The benefits provide coverages for a driver, a patient, a relative and 2 EMT, in case of becoming a permanent disability or death, a one million baht compensation will be given.

Mr.Piyasakon Sakolsattayatorn, M.D.  Minister of Public Health (MOPH) said that there were 33 ambulance crashes in 2015 that caused 68 injuries and 9 deaths. From January to August this year (2016), 2 fatal crashes and 55 injuries from 30 ambulance crashes. As a consequence, the number of days with no ambulance accident occurred were collected as a data, to determine and organize an ambulance accident prevention and resolution measurement. For instance, installing an ambulance speed control system using Satellite, Certified Ambulance Driver Training Program, and Alcohol Measuring for Driver and Strict Traffic Law Compliance. A good role model for an accident-free ambulance region will be rewarded to promote and maintain a sense of responsibility to public.

In addition, Ministry of Public Health has received support from General Insurance Association to coordinate among the insurance company to offer Emergency Ambulance Cover for ambulance owned and affiliated with Ministry of Public Health. As a consequence, Provincial Medical Physicians and Hospital Directors of both general and 1669 Command Center hospitals, are in charge of getting a First class ambulance insurance to provide basic coverage for a driver, a patient, a friend or relative, and 2 EMT. In case of death or disability, a coverage of one million baht will be compensated in case of death of disability caused by an ambulance accident, regardless.
