Emergency and Disaster Management
in Thailand
Edited By Prasit Wuthisuthimethawee
Amir Khorram-Manesh
The Thai Emergency Medical System faces many challenges. Although equity in service coverage has improved, services quality and efficiency also need to be improved. A common vision for all the involved organizations is mandatory to improve the whole chain of actions from dispatch center operations and interagency collaborations, to prehospital care and multidisciplinary engagement in various hospitals. An evidence-based working approach should be implemented in order to increase the accountability and efficiency of the care given. Shifting toward emergency and disaster risk reduction concepts will decrease the susceptibility of a community to emergencies and disasters, and build resilience in the community so it is prepared to face all kinds of unexpected events.
Apart from the editors, the seventeen chapters of this book had been written by renown scholars, policy-makers and academicians in the field of emergency medical service and disaster management in Thailand reflecting various aspects in managing health impacts from disasters and emergencies.
